Vi \u00e5terv\u00e4nder \u00e4n en g\u00e5ng till boken Den \u00e4kta gentlemannen av Professor J. G. Wenzel fr\u00e5n \u00e5r 1845. Senast fick vi l\u00e4ra oss h\u00f6vlighetsregler f\u00f6r umg\u00e4nget med det t\u00e4cka k\u00f6net<\/a>, idag har turen kommit till att l\u00e4ra sig hur man beter sig bland f\u00f6rn\u00e4mt folk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Det kan tyckas aningen f\u00f6rlegade kunskaper i ett samh\u00e4lle d\u00e4r klasskillnaderna enligt teorin borde vara historia. Men det kan \u00e4nd\u00e5 vara kul att se vad man i etikettlitteraturen l\u00e4rde ut i mitten av 1800-talet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ber\u00e4kning av rang \u00e4r en sak som m\u00e5ste ha varit knepigt vid denna tidsera. Hur vet man egentligen vem som innehar en h\u00f6gre rang \u00e4n en sj\u00e4lv? Som hj\u00e4lp kan du kanske anv\u00e4nda dig av 1930-talets ber\u00e4kning av rang<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Precis som vi tidigare kunnat ber\u00e4tta fr\u00e5n samma bok var ocks\u00e5 kunskap om hur man bugar sig p\u00e5 r\u00e4tt s\u00e4tt<\/a> av avg\u00f6rande betydelse vid etikettl\u00e4ran vid denna tidsera. En kunskap som var viktigt \u00e4nnu ett helt sekel efter\u00e5t inom vett och etikett. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kunskapen om hur du h\u00e4lsar p\u00e5 r\u00e4tt s\u00e4tt<\/a> \u00e4r ocks\u00e5 n\u00e5got som verkar ha fallit gl\u00f6mska hos m\u00e5nga av dagens m\u00e4nniskor. N\u00e5got som kanske inte \u00e4r s\u00e5 m\u00e4rkligt med tanke p\u00e5 att l\u00e4ran om vett och etikett verkar att ha f\u00e5tt en allt mindre roll i samh\u00e4llet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vi menar inte att f\u00f6r\u00e4ndringarna n\u00f6dv\u00e4ndigtvis beh\u00f6ver vara till det s\u00e4mre, \u00e4ven om mer respekt bland m\u00e4nniskor efterlyses. Straff f\u00f6r sabbatsbrott<\/a> \u00e4r en av de saker som vi g\u00e4rna undviker \u00e4ven i framtiden bara f\u00f6r att n\u00e4mna en sak. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

En \u00f6kad j\u00e4mlikhet mellan k\u00f6nen \u00e4r definitivt en sak som bidragit till att de flesta v\u00e4sterl\u00e4ndska samh\u00e4llen utvecklats och blivit b\u00e4ttre. Men nu \u00e5terv\u00e4nder vi allts\u00e5 till en tid d\u00e5 det \u00e4nnu vi \u00e4nnu hade ett lite oj\u00e4mlikt samh\u00e4lle och \u00e4ven rang var viktigt vid umg\u00e4nget med andra m\u00e4nniskor. Aff\u00e4rslifvet bringar oss ofta i s\u00e4llskapsf\u00f6rbindelser med de f\u00f6rn\u00e4me och store. En man af verld m\u00e5ste \u00e4fven h\u00e4r veta att bete sig tillb\u00f6rligt, f\u00f6r att \u00e4fven i s\u00e5dana fall v\u00e4l upptagas och gynnsamt bed\u00f6mas. Jag har i s\u00e5dant \u00e4ndam\u00e5l samlat nedanst\u00e5ende f\u00f6reskrifter:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Ju f\u00f6rn\u00e4mare huset \u00e4r, desto n\u00e4ttare och prydligare vare man i sin dr\u00e4gt, men aldrig \u00f6fver sitt st\u00e5nd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. I umg\u00e4nget med f\u00f6rn\u00e4me \u00e4r stadga en v\u00e4sentlig fordran. Desse m\u00e4n, som sjelfve bete sig med v\u00e4rdighet och allvar, fordra detsamma af dem, de lemna tilltr\u00e4de hos sig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Hvad som i mindre s\u00e4llskap g\u00e5r an, \u00e4r p\u00e5 or\u00e4tt st\u00e4lle i umg\u00e4nget med de store. H\u00e4r m\u00e5ste all f\u00f6rtrolighet, alla sm\u00e5 friheter, all maklighet och of\u00f6rbeh\u00e5llsamhet afl\u00e4gsnas; v\u00f6rdnad och h\u00f6gaktning m\u00e5ste framlysa i v\u00e5ra miner, ord och handlingar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Det \u00e4r n\u00f6digt, att vi g\u00f6re oss bekanta med bruket och pl\u00e4gsederna hos de f\u00f6rn\u00e4me och store, samt att vi noga efterlefve dem. Man falle dem aldrig i talet, och \u00e5tn\u00f6je sig med hedern att svara p\u00e5 deras fr\u00e5gor; eller lemne korta f\u00f6rklaringar vid ett och annat. Man mots\u00e4ge icke s\u00e5dana personer; man tage en synbar del i allt, hvad de s\u00e4ga eller g\u00f6ra; man vare full af uppm\u00e4rksamhet, full af beredvillighet att f\u00f6rekomma deras \u00f6nskningar; man kalle dem gynnare och f\u00f6rvandla det hos ringare passande ordet godhet<\/em> till bev\u00e5genhet<\/em>, ynnest<\/em>, n\u00e5d<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Nedl\u00e5tenhet \u00e5 f\u00f6rn\u00e4ma personers sida m\u00e5 ej ber\u00e4ttiga oss till st\u00f6rre frihet. Ju mindre dylika personer fordra v\u00f6rdnad, eller synas fordra den, ju mer vakte man sig att missbruka deras godhet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Man afh\u00f6re uppm\u00e4rksamt deras ord, f\u00f6r att icke r\u00e5ka i f\u00f6rl\u00e4genhet att bedja om upprepandet af hvad de sagt. Dels v\u00e4lja de sina ord sorgf\u00e4lligt, dels g\u00f6r det dem ledsnad, om de \u00e4nnu en g\u00e5ng skola uttala dessa ord. Blott n\u00e4r det ang\u00e5r saker af vigt, f\u00e5r man f\u00f6rst\u00e5ndigt bedja dem om upplysning. Skulle de l\u00e5ta oss f\u00f6rst\u00e5, att de trott sig tala tydligt nog, s\u00e5 m\u00e5ste man vara n\u00f6jd dermed och blott, om det g\u00e5r an, f\u00f6rs\u00e4kra, att endast v\u00e5rt nit f\u00f6r deras v\u00e4l f\u00f6rm\u00e5tt oss bedja om en n\u00e4rmare f\u00f6rklaring af deras tankar. I mindre vigtiga ting g\u00f6r man b\u00e4ttre, om man l\u00e5tsar sig ha fullt f\u00f6rst\u00e5tt dem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. Det \u00e4r otillst\u00e4ndigt att vilja fr\u00e5ga en s\u00e5dan person efter orsaken till n\u00e5gon hemlig oro eller bekymmer, hvaraf man kunde se honom pl\u00e5gas. Det \u00e4r f\u00f6r h\u00f6gt st\u00e5ende personer alltid f\u00f6rtretligt, om man vill komma dem till hjelp der, hvarest de ej \u00e5stunda n\u00e5gon s\u00e5dan, och dubbelt oskickligt \u00e4r det, om en ung<\/em> man vill bispringa med r\u00e5d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. Man tillbjude aldrig en h\u00f6gre person ett vad, eller tage genast f\u00f6r allvar, om han sjelf tillbjuder ett s\u00e5dant. Alla vad f\u00f6ruts\u00e4tta jemnlikhet i st\u00e5nd och egodelar, samt \u00e4ro m\u00e5h\u00e4nda \u00e4fven under dessa omst\u00e4ndigheter of\u00f6renlige med st\u00e4dade seder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. Vid bes\u00f6ket hos en f\u00f6rn\u00e4m man yttrar man sig kort, och qvarstannar, om han ej sjelf annorlunda befaller, endast n\u00e5gra minuter hos honom. Men sker bes\u00f6ket i verkliga aff\u00e4rer, s\u00e5 v\u00e4nte man tills han ger tecken, att intet vidare \u00e4r att afg\u00f6ra, eller fr\u00e5ge, om han \u00e4nnu har n\u00e5got att befalla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10. Personer af rang f\u00e5r man aldrig hviska i \u00f6rat, om det icke uttryckligt \u00e4skas, och \u00e4fven d\u00e5 b\u00f6r det ske med djup v\u00f6rdnad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

11. S\u00e5 l\u00e4nge man ej anmodas att sitta, blir man st\u00e5ende; ej heller s\u00e4tter man sig vid f\u00f6rsta anmodningen, om denna ej sker i en rentaf best\u00e4md ton; men i s\u00e5dant fall utan uppskof.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

12. M\u00f6ter oss en f\u00f6rn\u00e4m man p\u00e5 gatan, s\u00e5 stannar man n\u00e5got och bugar sig dervid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

13. Damer af h\u00f6g rang kysser man blott d\u00e5 p\u00e5 handen, n\u00e4r handkyssning \u00e4r bruklig, hvilket sk\u00f6njes deraf, att damen b\u00f6rjar aftaga handsken. Man lyfter hennes hand icke till munnen, utan bugar sig, f\u00f6r derp\u00e5 hennes hand blott helt litet mot sina l\u00e4ppar och utan att p\u00e5 minsta s\u00e4tt trycka den.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

14. \u00c4r en f\u00f6rn\u00e4m person s\u00e5 nedl\u00e5tande, att han beledsagar oss ut, s\u00e5 l\u00e5tsar man icke m\u00e4rka det, men v\u00e4nder alltid br\u00f6st och ansigte emot honom. Det f\u00e5r aldrig synas, som trodde vi det vara en oss till\u00e4mnad heder. Endast vare den sista bugningen desto mer v\u00f6rdnadsfull.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

15. Man infinner sig blott s\u00e4llan hos f\u00f6rn\u00e4ma, och alltid \u00e5 visittimman. Man l\u00e5ter ingen f\u00f6delse- eller namnsdag, ingen ny\u00e5rsdag m. m. g\u00e5 f\u00f6rbi, utan att, der s\u00e5 brukas, teckna sitt namn \u00e5 det i f\u00f6rmaket befintliga papper, eller aflemna ett visitkort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

16. Talar en f\u00f6rn\u00e4m person till oss p\u00e5 gatan med obet\u00e4ckt hufvud, s\u00e5 afh\u00e5lle man sig att erinra honom derom och f\u00f6rblifve sjelf obet\u00e4ckt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

17. Detsamma g\u00e4ller, i fall den f\u00f6rn\u00e4ma personen lemnar oss plats till h\u00f6ger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

18. Ser man en s\u00e5dan man redan p\u00e5 afst\u00e5nd, s\u00e5 g\u00f6r man sina steg sm\u00e5ningom allt mindre och l\u00e5ngsammare. Man nalkas honom med \u00e4delt skick, stannar, bugar sig, bet\u00e4cker sig l\u00e5ngsamt och forts\u00e4tter efter en liten stund sin g\u00e5ng.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

19.
